On A Clear Day is the duo of Ryan Martin and David Grant and this short but incredibly sweet tour tape is available as a pay-what-you-want job over on the duo’s bandcamp. At a shade under 10 minutes, this is the perfect quick fix when a dose of minimal, deceptively melodic electronics is needed. “Dry Martyr” plods along through modular alleyways with a deft, slow kick and repetitive, layered earworm leads. Building and building to a subtle, almost anti-climax there’s something oddly soothing about the piece. I can’t help but imagine being lulled into false sense of security while their partners are hauling my stereo system out the back door, but hey – that’s a chance I’m willing to take. The flip, “Binding Chorus” adds considerably more crunch and the mix of manipulated/deconstructed vocal snippets, deep drones, and chirping electronic circuitry is well-balanced while it pushes toward a skyward end. This one is quick but damn tasty and now I’m anxious to hear more of this project.
