This is a real gem from the Foxglove catalog. Anthony Guerra has long been a favorite of mine (and he’s still going strong) and his playing on White Eagle is some of my favorite. The titular track, streamed here, is emotive and messy with Guerra’s solemn, blues-inflected notes and Matthew Nidek’s controlled-yet-spastic drumming. Chords hang heavy in the air, tugging at all the right heart strings, like a leviathan elegantly thrashing out its last breaths. Long after the last, bowed cymbal fades away, the impact still resonates, still haunts your every step. It’s such a stunning piece.
